GLCU Foundation Rolls out "Get to Know Your Housing Counselor" Videos
The GLCU Foundation offers one of the largest HUD-approved housing and financial counseling programs in Illinois. This free service is available to members and non-members alike. Through housing and financial counseling, participants improve their financial situation, address their housing needs, and pursue their long-term housing and financial goals. GLCU’s Housing Counseling services range from addressing homelessness or foreclosure to planning one’s first-time home purchase. Counselors teach the principles of housing and money management, assist participants to increase income, improve their housing conditions, access credit, and achieve stability and confidence. Watch the first in an ongoing series of videos highlighting our counselors, beginning with Jessie Flores.
The GLCU Foundation is pleased to partner with two nonprofit organizations whose missions align with ours.
The Economic Awareness Council (EAC) aims to “prepare students and families for the economic and financial decisions they will make both today and tomorrow,” educating students and families about the basics of saving, budgeting, banking, credit, investing, business and entrepreneurship as well as empowering individuals to set and reach their financial goals. What’s more, the EAC advocates for high quality, consumer friendly bank account access for youth and families in low to moderate income communities. Now, through their partnership with the GLCU Foundation, providing housing and financial counseling is part of their repertoire of services.
South Suburban PADS (SSPADS), works to prevent and end homelessness in the south suburbs of Chicago. The organization provides integrated services to enable unhoused individuals and families to access emergency shelter, move back into their own affordable apartments, and achieve better health and economic security. Since its founding in 1990, SSPADS has provided more than 700,000 nights of emergency shelter and over 2 million meals to enable over 20,000 people to overcome homelessness. The emergency shelter impact has grown over 169% since 2019, helping more than 400 people preserve or access affordable housing homes every year.
